Little Emperor, The Emperor Syndrome
is a name for a condition affecting both parents and their one child. This occurs in urban areas of China, Beijing, and Shanghai. It is considered to be an indirect result of the one-child policy. With both parents lavishing attention and resources on their one child, the child becomes increasingly spoiled and gains a sense of self-importance and entitlement.
In the workplace, The Little Emperor does exist.
They demand a “special” treatment that they consider “normal”. They expect people to follow and agree with what they say and feel angry if people disagree with them. They influence others with their bad habits, double standard, and irresponsible.
Unaccustomed to being told 'no', the Little Emperors behaved the same way in the workplace as they did at home. Just as they would demand toys and pocket money from their family, they would demand greater benefits and higher salaries from their employers. They do not want to work extra mileage but demand special treats. They are defined as 'greedy' and averse to rejection might well promote disharmony among colleagues.
